The Following is a Required Government Notice about MPIHP’s Grandfathered Status
The Motion Picture Industry Health Plan is considered a “grandfathered” health plan under the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (the Act).
A grandfathered health plan can preserve certain basic health coverage that was already in effect when the ACA was enacted. Being a grandfathered health plan means that your plan is exempt from certain provisions of the Act, such as the requirement to cover certain preventive health services without any cost sharing). However, grandfathered health plans must comply with certain other provisions in the Affordable Care Act (such as the elimination of lifetime limits on benefits).
Questions regarding which provisions apply and which do not apply to a grandfathered health plan and what might cause a plan to change from grandfathered health plan status should be directed to the Employee Benefits Security Administration, U.S. Department of Labor at (866) 444-3272 or visit
This website has a table summarizing the provisions and identifies those that do not apply to grandfathered health plans. You may also contact the MPI Participant Services Center at (855) ASK-4MPI.
